Body Rox is a Teen Dream

In keeping with our "Back to School theme this August, Camille Fletcher helps us to show teenagers a bit of information on staying healthy.

If you have a teenager at home who needs to start taking a nutritional supplement, I have some info that may just help you become the “teen whisperer” when it comes to appealing to his or her interests.
Researchers have noted that beliefs and attitudes instilled in teens by parents, coaches, and other significant figures, especially personal trainers, impact an adolescent’s use of supplements. So definitely keep talking about how important good nutrition is. Here are four strong angles you can take:

Do Your Best in Sports

More nutritional supplements are used by teen athletes than non-athletes. Sixty two percent believe supplements can help their performance. Good nutrition is helpful for staying fit in a number of ways: B vitamins are needed for energy; B vitamins and vitamin C are important for muscle development and joint maintenance (collagen structure); vitamin D, calcium, and other minerals are needed for strong bones; and vitamins C, D, and E are necessary for good respiratory and heart health.

Stay Healthy

Staying well is the number one reason teens report they use nutritional supplements. A well-rounded supplement can help fill nutritional gaps every day to keep their immunity strong: vitamins C and D, as well as zinc and selenium are excellent immune system supporters; vitamins A and E, and phytonutrients deliver antioxidant defense to keep cells healthy; B vitamins and minerals like magnesium and copper are needed for nutrient metabolism, or getting the nutrients from food, which is essential for energy.

Fuel Your Brain

If teens want to get to the head of the class, it is crucial that they give their brains ample supplies of the nutrients they need to stay sharp and keep their mental energy high. A study published in 2000 in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine stated that low vitamin status can impair brain function, which could impact mood, decision making, and behavior. Good nutrition is important for brain function, here are a few examples: choline is involved in memory, manganese and other minerals are linked to neural function, and a wide range of B vitamins are essential to healthy brain activity.

Look Good

If all else fails, appeal to your teen’s desire to look his or her best. Looking good is the top reason most people take care of their health, and teens are no different. Most understand that inner health is reflected in their outer appearance, so tell them what they need to support healthy skin:
  • The carotenoids — beta carotene, lutein, and lycopene — help give skin a healthy glow. They also support elasticity and defense against oxidative damage caused by the sun.
  • Phytonutrients contain important compounds that defend the skin against damage caused by free radicals from poor diets and stress.
  • Vitamins C and E and some minerals are important for firmness (from collagen and protein structure) and skin texture.

You’ve Answered the Question Why, Now Tell them How

Body Rox (PDF) is USANA’s Essentials supplement for teens. All it takes is three tablets a day to give your teen a foundation of excellent nutrition that can help them address any of the concerns listed above.
In addition to the wide array of essential nutrients already in the product, our newly upgraded formula now includes even more vitamin D and increased B vitamins. We switched from ascorbic acid to the full proprietary Poly C® blend to deliver superior antioxidant protection. Many of the phytonutrients, including USANA’s patented Olivol®, have been increased, and there is a jump in lutein to better support skin health.
We also made the formula vegetarian, so it will appeal to the increasing number of teens who choose not to eat animal products, and there is a tropical fruit flavored coating to make swallowing the tablet just a tiny bit easier.
Teens who use multivitamins usually live healthier lifestyles, eat better, and watch less TV, so it is well worth it to keep talking to your teens about Body Rox. It could be the start of a life-long commitment to good health!

Nutrition & Children (Back to School)

For many students the month of August is Back to School month. We as parents are doing all the necessary things to prepare our kids to have their best year. Clothes, school supplies, backpacks and more! Oh and of course vaccinations and physicals must be done.

The most important detail for many are left out and that is in the form of nutrition. It's really a blessing to get compliments from the teachers that our children are rarely sick and eat very healthy. Although as a child that wasn't the case for me due to being anemic. So I had to take a vitamin and iron everyday of my life and I was sick alot. No parent wants that for their child.

This month will focus on back to school. What are you doing in the area of nutrition for your child? Don't even get me started on the school lunch program. As my kids say, "Uck". We are dedicating our blog this month to the children. To not just help them prepare for the classroom but prepare their insides for all the germs that will be lurking in the byways and hallways...lol!

With our food supply being so processed and the choices for school lunches are next to nothing. We make sure our children supplement to have the most optimal health during the school year. That is why our teenagers took The Body Rox and our youngest son took The Usanimals. Usanimals provides one of the best antioxidant complexes available for protection against oxidative stress among supplements for children 24 months to 12 years old* Body Rox provides the same just for older kids ages 13+.

So don't just get all the tools they need on the supply list make sure to include the most important tool of all for cellular health.
